What is financial wellness? Financial wellness is your ability to live a healthy financial life. It is the power to take control of your financial health now and into the future.

Financial wellness allows you to feel secure over day-to-day and month-to-month finances.  You have the means to absorb a financial shock and freedom to make choices that let you enjoy life.   You are able meet your long-term financial goals.

You can enhance your financial wellness by improving various aspects of your personal finances.

I can relate to Bob Dylan when he mentions in song “my money comes and goes . . .  it rolls and flows through the holes in the pockets of my clothes.”    If you know the feeling Dylan sings about, you will be interested in to know that the library is offering a series of money management sessions.

The first in the series, entitled “Mend the Spend,” is led by Camilla Lovette-Day, former manager of State Employee Credit Union in Boone, NC.   This free program takes place at 5:30 p.m. on March 16 in The Masthead.  The Masthead is a new co-working space operated by NC Tech Path and located at 711 Main St., Suite 104 in North Wilkesboro.   Come out for refreshments and learn strategies for budgeting and saving.

On March 23, Evan Handy, certified financial planner from Edward Jones, will share the basics of investing at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s meeting room. It’s not enough to save money for retirement; you need to invest to make that money grow.

Megan Lynch Ellis, from North Carolina Community Foundation, will talk about Launching a Legacy Through Charitable Giving at 5:30 p.m. on March 30 in the library.

If you want to build charitable giving into your estate plan, the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) can help you realize your goals, achieve tax advantages and leave a growing legacy for generations to come. This is philanthropy that is amazingly accessible and will have a major, lasting impact on your community. Legacy gifts support much of the charitable work in the communities we partner with throughout our state.  Learn about ways to remember your favorite charities in your estate and to launch your legacy for Wilkes County and beyond.

Save the dates and come out for these ‘money matters’ talks.  All programs are free and refreshments will be served.
