On November 5, 2022 the first Marathon Jam was held from 1:00 - 11:00 p.m. at VFW Post 1142 in North Wilkesboro. Wilkes County Public Library in partnership with Wilkes Acoustic Folk Society hosted the event where $1040 was raised to benefit Fisher Houses in North Carolina.
Musicians of all skill levels met at the VFW Post 1142, getting together for a 10-hour jam in honor of our local veterans. The funds raised were sent to support Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune Fisher houses. These are comfort homes for families to stay nearby the base hospitals when their miliatry loved ones are receiving medical treatment. The motto of Marathon Jam is 'Curatus per Musica,' meaning 'Healing Through Music.' One singer, Jaz Poff, stayed in the jam circle, singing through the entire event and was recognized as an Iron Picker!
Several veterans and first responders were wrapped, during the jam, in patriotic Quilts of Honor, donated by Iron Quilters. A BIG thank you goes out to all who particpated in the Marathon Jam with a their time, talents, and donations. Hopes are to make this event an annual celebration and all are looking forward to gathering again next year.
