New Library Pickup Lockers and Library Lovers Month Highlights!

Library Lovers Month Takes the National Spotlight Every February! Libraries are amazing community centers that offer a wide range of books and other resources for public consumption. The best part is that all you need to gain access to these resources is a library card, which is completely free of charge! So, if you haven't got a library card yet, it's high time you get one and start exploring the vast world of knowledge and information that awaits you at the library.
The Wilkes County Public Library is thrilled to invite everyone to come and discover the new library services that make borrowing books and other materials more convenient than ever. Thanks to the generous support of the Town of Wilkesboro, and a Library Science and Technology Act (LSTA) Grant, the library is proud to offer an alternative way of accessing library materials 24/7. Recently, new lockers have been installed in Wilkesboro, right next to Cook’s Outfitters. These lockers have been put in place to make it easier for library users to access the materials they need. Users can request items to be delivered to the locker location for easy pick-up. In the upcoming months, there will be special promotions and programs at the new locker site to help raise awareness of this new feature.
We are excited to announce that our Library Lovers Celebration will begin with a special event on February 3, which is nationally recognized as Take Your Child to the Library Day. This day provides a wonderful opportunity to encourage children to read, understand the significance of local libraries and the resources they offer, and emphasize the value of education. We hope you will join us on February 3, 2024, to celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day. A special story time is scheduled for the children at 11:00 a.m. and there will be a Library Bunny Scavenger Hunt. Participants can earn a token for the Inchy Bookworm Vending Machine.
As a friendly reminder, we would like to inform you about the upcoming Library Love event, which will take place during the week of February 19 – 24. Additionally, during this week, we will be hosting a "Food for Fines" campaign. This campaign allows patrons to donate non-perishable food items in exchange for forgiveness of their fines. For every food item donated, one dollar will be forgiven. For instance, if a patron has $10 in fines, they can bring in 10 cans of food, and their fines will be waived. We welcome patrons without fines who wish to donate food items as well. Thank you for your support!
