During February, don’t forget to show your love for your library! This month, libraries are nationally celebrated for their value in the community. You may be familiar with the saying, “It’s not a house; it’s a home…” In a similar vein, we can say, “It’s not just a building that houses books; it’s the heart of the community!”

The library is not only a place to enjoy great novels or discover amazing adventures and untold histories.  Libraries have resources for research papers and offer quiet spaces to study. For preschoolers, there are story times and numerous hands-on activities that expose them to music, art, and the foundations of friendships.

Wilkes County Public Library features several meeting rooms and spaces for groups to gather for special programs and classes. In addition to lending books and DVDs, the library offers unique items such as ukuleles, alphabet activity backpacks, and outdoor activity equipment. There are computers available and librarians ready to assist with technological needs, as well as one of the best reference reading rooms in the state to help with research and genealogy.

In celebration of Library Lovers Month, join us at the Wilkes County Public Library on February 20 for an Open House from 10:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Enjoy refreshments and meet the Friends of Wilkes County Library, who will be recruiting new members. Consider volunteering your time as well! If you don’t have a library card, it’s never too late to get one. Visit the library to sign up, and using #NationalLibraryLoversDay, share your experience on social media.
