Libraries are welcoming spaces that bring communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, crafting classes, lectures, and more. Wilkes County Public Library offers a wide array of programs, classes and resources, a wide collection of things, such as outdoor activity equipment, ukuleles, and technology items.
And libraries play a critical role in the economic vitality of communities by providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for job seekers, small businesses, and entrepreneurs. Wilkes County Public Library also extends outreach with a literacy station at Wilkesboro Laundromat, as well as story walks in downtown North Wilkesboro, Smoot Park, and Fish Dam Creek Park.
This year the library hosts a community garden plot at Cub Creek Park in Wilkesboro, and continues to offer a seed library for patrons to pick up seeds and grow their own home gardens. In addition, a new community ‘free’ fridge is now located in the library to share fresh foods and surplus produce with patrons.
The county library also operates a branch location in Traphill and is a community hub for a variety of programs, such as Tai Chi, book club, and a monthly jam session for musicians.
