Genealogy & Local History

The Wilkes Genealogical Society, Inc. maintains a collection of materials to enable users to study local and family history. The society's collection of books, periodicals, microfilm, CDs and other related material is proud to be housed in the Local History and Genealogy Room of the Wilkes County Public Library.

The Wilkes Genealogical Society produces four bulletins per year for members and other organizations that also share family research information. Beginning in 2016, the new e-bulletins are available online. Members with email receive the e-bulletin electronically. Members without email can opt for a printed version mailed to their designated address.

To learn more about WGS, the collection, and opportunities to become a member and purchase heritage books and other valuable research, view an e-bulletin below or visit http://www.wilkesgensoc.net/.

The Genealogy Room is not staffed on a regular basis.  We encourage you to call the library to verify hours and arrange for a volunteer to offer assistance prior to any travel.

Both the Ashe County Library and Watauga County Library have extensive genealogy resources available.  To learn more about resources in Ashe County click here.  If you'd like to learn more about Watauga County's resources, click here.
