There may be ‘Oceans of Possibilities’ . . . but only ONE accurate solution for measuring Longitude at sea
by Suzanne Moore, county librarian
June’s literary highlight honors Dava Sobel (b. June 15, 1947), author of Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time (published 1995). This story follows John Harrison through a 40-year process of inventing the marine chronometer which made it possible for calculating longitude, allowing safe and secure passage across the sea.
