Title: CIRCULATION ASSISTANT:
Location: Ashe County Public Library


Performs circulation, registration, readersí advisory and ready reference services. Duties include charging and discharging materials through automated system; registering and renewing card holders and updating their information; helping library customers locate materials; collecting fines and fees; and shelving library materials. High school diploma and previous work experience required; some college and/or Spanish desirable. Afternoons/evenings 19 hours/week, $8.01/hour. TITLE: County Librarian (Librarian III)

LIBRARY: Wilkes County Public Library, part of the Appalachian Regional Library


BEGINNING SALARY:
Range: $34,412-$54,412

QUALIFICATIONS:
A masterís degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution is required with a minimum of three years of public library administrative/management experience and certification by the North Carolina Public Library Certification Board. Excellent oral and written communication skills and management skills are necessary. Experience with managing a budget is required. Must have the ability to plan and direct the work of staff engaged in carrying out generalized and specialized library functions.

DUTIES:
The County Librarian provides professional guidance to a staff of eighteen and is directly responsible for all public services, budget management, and internal operations (including facilities maintenance) necessary to the efficient management of a county library. This employee is the libraryís ambassador and is responsible for promoting the library and its services in the community. The County Librarian also participates in planning and budgeting with the Director, works with the other County Librarians in regional activities, plans and facilitates the meetings of the local library board, and maintains a good working relationship with the local library board, local Friends groups, and local funding agencies. The County Librarian directly supervises five employees and reports to the ARL Director of Libraries.
